3D Pittsburgh
I would propose this idea to the Awesome Pittsburgh folks, but I am pretty sure I need more than $1000 to do this..... We really need a franchise of this store here in Pittsburgh. Pop up store anyone?

Adjusted for inflation, that this is quite a bit cheaper than an Apple II was when I was a kid. In fact, it's probably not much more expensive than a VCR was back then.
Yes, we do need one of these stores, but there is a Pittsburgh MakerBot community working out of the old roundhouse in Hazelwood, and also I think HackPittsburgh.org has something afoot.
But you're right, we need one of these stores so people can buy one for their high school, their garage, etc. And then all the white-hat makers can get jobs at the MakerBot Genius Bar.
HackPittsburgh has this down as a nonprofit, and TechShop (Bakery Square, opening in March) is the for-profit version we'll have shortly. :-)
